Book Review: Ian’s Walk

Check out this inspirational and perspective changing book, “Ian’s Walk: A Story about Autismby Laurie Lears!

Ian’s Walk follows a little boy named Ian and his sister Julie. Julie and her big sister Tara go on a walk and begrudgingly  bring her little brother Ian, who has autism. She explains how along the walk he sees, hears, smells, feels and tastes things differently and that sometimes it embarrasses her. After a small incident that occurs on the walk, Julie’s perspective changes. She begins to see things from Ian’s perspective and realizes that he just views the world in a different way.

This book is a great book to help brothers and sisters approach their siblings’ disability in a different way. It is necessary for parents to understand the negative feelings that these children may feel but also encourage them to focus on the strengths and accept their sibling for the unique person that they are.
